presenting my new album "Trio plays Standards"
Переглядів 51321 день тому
We made a standards album with the trio and it’s out today 💛 👉pabloheld.bandcamp.com/album/trio-plays-standards On our 14 previous albums together we explored many different musical realms, but this is the first time we only recorded standards! It took us 18 years to get here 🥹 With this record we aim to pay respect to the rich legacy of this music. TRIO PLAYS STANDARDS is available on LP, CD &...
Joe Lovano interviewed by Pablo Held

Talking to Joe Lovano was a dream come true. After so many years of listening to him I finally got to ask him about his process and get deeper insights into his musical journey. When our conversation ended I felt totally inspired and eager to dive into music- that’s exactly like we feel after we’ve taken a lesson with a great teacher, right? I’m glad we can all learn from maestro Joe together n...

John Scofield interviewed by Pablo Held PART II

The great John Scofield returns to the podcast - and this time he brought his guitar! I absolutely love talking with Sco. To get ask him about his time with Paul Bley, Miles Davis, Elvin Jones and Jaco still is like a dream come true for me. And when he then takes out his guitar to demonstrate things from the music we talk about, like Carla Bley's classic 'Ida Lupino' or a couple of my favorite...
Savannah Harris interviewed by Pablo Held

Savannah Harris is an incredible drummer & great person. I not only admire her musicality & playing, but also her honesty and a rare no-BS-mentality, which is so apparent both in her playing and when you talk to her. We bonded right away when we first played and hung out in 2023. (Both of us were on the jury & the accompanying band for the GJC auditions in Mainz) Plans were made to do an interv...

Mark Turner interviewed by Pablo Held

What an absolute joy to nerd-out with saxophonist & composer Mark Turner about music after all these years of listening to him! As I tell Mark during this episode his tune "Jacky's Place" was my ring-tone for a while in the early 2000s 😂. I think we hit it off right away and covered a lot of ground in our conversation. I'm happy to share it now with all of you! • join me on Patreon for monthly ...

This my conversation with recording engineer & multi-instrumentalist Joseph Branciforte. I had been a fan of his work on albums by Ben Monder, Caroline Davis, Matt Mitchell, Jen Shyu & Kate Gentile and loved his duo work with Theo Bleckmann. So naturally I was excited when Joseph reached out to me and said that he had been listening to the podcast and would love to come on to talk about his pro...

I've never heard Joe Lovano talk before. When I saw the title of this video I wondered if he would talk about Paul Motian, my favorite drummer, and he opened talking about him. Beautiful. Thanks for this.

This is the best interview of Joe Lovano I've come across in terms of the insights you get into how Joe approaches improvisation and how he learned to improvise. And I have the feeling you make this possible by being such a well informed and dedicated conversation partner for him Pablo, thanks a lot :)

Hello Pablo! Thanks for both interviews with Sco! Sco is my favorite jazz guitarist and I enjoyed listening to your conversation. Scofield got to play several Zappa themes (another musician I highly respect) with Duke and Cobham, as well as Govt Mule. I've always been interested in Sco's opinion about Zappa as a composer and musician - will you have the opportunity to ask him this question at your next meeting with Sco (if there is one planned)? Thank you!)

'you can go from zooming in to zooming out' ...'being very precise and being amazingly free' I like Pablo's analysis of Lovano. Having transcribed a few sections of his solos, I was struck by the contrast. He can play lines tightly around the harmony, and then go quite free with shapes and colors ala Dewey Redman, playing across the harmony, all in the same solo.
